General Motors Will Still Introduce The Camaro Convertible In 2011

Terry Rhadigan from General Motors has said that contrary to belief, the convertible version of the Camaro has not been cancelled. “The convertible was never canceled. It was retimed. It will be the first quarter of 2011 for the start of production,” said Rhadigan. GM’s spokesman said that the company’s original plan included an electric folding soft top for 2010.

“We always thought it would be one year after the coupe,” he said. “Instead we are going two.” It was said that the drop-top will feature the same engine range as the coupe variant. It's been a long time coming, but Chevrolet's reborn ponycar coupe debuted as a 2010 model.

Convertibles were set to quickly follow, but the latest word is they won't hit the market until the first quarter of 2011. Plus buzz was starting to build for an ultra-performance Z28 version, but the late word is it has been canceled.

It would have been a great nostalgia trip, but $4 gas and financial problems at General Motors likely conspired against it.
